Discover the extraordinary NULU Double Oaked "Jaqueira Barrel Finished" Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a unique expression that elevates your whiskey experience. When The Prime Barrel team embarked on a barrel-picking expedition, our goal was simple: seeking the best whiskey.

During our visit to NULU Distillery in Kentucky, we initially set out to select a 10-year-old bourbon. However, we were captivated by three aging barrels showcasing a striking yellow hue—an unusual sight that piqued our curiosity. These barrels were crafted from Jaqueira wood, also known as jackfruit, a tropical wood renowned for its rich flavor characteristics.

This high-rye bourbon underwent a meticulous aging process, starting with 4 years and 7 months in its original barrel. It was then transferred to a Char 5 oak barrel for 10 months before entering the medium-toasted Jaqueira barrel from a Brazilian cooperage. 

NULU initially planned to label this expression as "Triple Oaked." However, due to issues with TTB approval for the "Triple Oaked" denomination, they opted for the previously approved "Double Oak" label. This choice does not diminish the fact that this bourbon is indeed a triple-oaked expression, showcasing a complex flavor profile.

After sampling this exceptional bourbon, we were instantly drawn to its complex flavor profile. Each Jaqueira finished barrel provided a unique tasting experience, with the char 5 barrel contributing richness and the Jaqueira influence, creating a delightful and vibrant palate sensation.

As the first group to select a Jaquiera finished barrel from NuLu, The Prime Barrel proudly presents this innovative bourbon, which showcases the meticulous finishing methods that set it apart from traditional expressions.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The initial aroma bursts with tropical fruit, especially jackfruit, followed by bright citrus notes like grapefruit. A warm pie spice blend of cinnamon and nutmeg rounds it out, with just a subtle hint of cedar lingering in the background.

• Palate: A lively, sweet introduction of juicy fruit greets the palate, quickly overlaid by a complex mix of spice cabinet flavors led by cinnamon. The rich sweetness of thick maple syrup and a faint touch of barrel char add depth, creating a well-rounded and layered taste.

• Finish: The finish is prickly and vibrant, with citrus again taking center stage. Brown sugar sweetness emerges, with a final hint of smoky barrel char, leaving a lasting, intriguing impression of this unique Double Oak Bourbon.
