In a year of incredible Prime Barrel releases, this may be the pièce de résistance: a Very Olde St. Nick bespoke custom blend, crafted from three rare barrels of ultra-aged Kentucky straight bourbon. Created exclusively for The Prime Barrel, this exceptional blend brings together 17-, 19-, and 21-year-old bourbon in a one-time expression that will not be recreated.
Very Olde St. Nick is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, marking four decades of building a reputation as one of bourbon's most mysterious and coveted names. Known for quirky releases, exceptional single barrels, and ultra-small batches, Very Olde St. Nick helped establish the tradition of ultra-premium, hard-to-find Kentucky bourbon long before the modern era of allocated whiskey.
To craft this extraordinary blend, Very Olde St. Nick founder Marci Palatella and Master of Maturation Kyle Lloyd hosted a group of Prime Barrel members at Preservation Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Kyle began the experience with four very well-matured bourbons, then guided the group through a series of different combinations and ratios. Tasting, comparing, adjusting, and repeating, we ultimately arrived at the blend that captured the character we were looking for - a remarkable convergence of three ultra-aged bourbons with flavor integration and balance, putting it in a class of its own.
The Prime Barrel Very Olde St. Nick custom blend was created from an undisclosed ratio of three barrels aged 17, 19, and 21 years. Adding another layer of bourbon history, the 17-year-old component was distilled by a well-known Shively distillery that closed in the early 1990s, making this blend a compelling intersection of rare age, historic bourbon provenance, and modern maturation expertise.
