Starward Wheated Single Grain "Legendary Starward" 7 Year Old Australian Single Barrel Whisky The Prime Barrel Pick #27

$74

ABOUT

Here's something you don't see every day - a 7-year-old single grain whiskey from Australia finished in PX Casks. That single grain - wheat!

Starward brand is relatively new to the American market, but it's long been established in Europe and Australia. The brand is known for finishing Australian whiskey in red wine casks. While this might not be everyone's cup of tea, this expression is different in every imaginable way. Let's count them:

While technically Pedro Ximenez sherry is wine, a seasoned whisky drinker knows that some world-renowned brands and expressions came from finishing bourbon/scotch in PX casks. The sherry lends sweeter notes to the whiskey, shaving off any possible rough edges. It also does not have overly tannic notes that are prevalent in other red wine finishes, and that's a good thing as far as we are concerned.
100% Wheated whiskeys are a rarity in any market, and this is one of a very few that you'll come across
Starward had about 65 barrels in the market since their single barrel program launched three years ago.
Only 8 of them have been wheat, and only 4 have been finished in the PX cask.
Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: toasted nuts, dried black cherries, red apple, apricot, truffle, tangerine peel, leather, and wheat chaff
  • Palate: almond skin, macadamia nuts, raisins, espresso, black cardamom, citrus, and sage
  • Finish: long, spicy, and saline finish with notes of cinnamon and citrus pith

The "tater" sticker was suggested by our Discord community and is a parody of a Starlord Commander from Marvel comics.

$5 from each bottle will support Leukemia & Lymphoma society. The organization is dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers. They are the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.
