Founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti, Poliziano is located a few miles northeast of Montelpulciano, Italy. Dino’s son Frederico inherited the winery in 1982 and subsequently expanded the estate while improving overall quality. (80% Prugnolo Gentile/20% Merlot) The hand-picked fruit was harvested from a southwest facing vineyard that was planted to rich, clay soils from the Pliocene era. The grapes were fermented and macerated for 10-12 days in steel vats. 20-40% of the wine aged for eight months in neutral American oak barriques and the remainder aged in vats.
This well structured red presents notes of ripe red fruit on the long and smooth finish.
Enjoy with pastas in red sauces, salmon and pork dishes.
