Old Elk “Harry Wheater” 7 Year Old Wheated Single Barrel Bourbon The Prime Barrel Pick #26

Our first Old Elk selection seduced us by having a very similar profile to Welle 12 yo. In fact, in a blind tasting, some of us had a tough time distinguishing between the two. It stands to reason, as well, because both have wheated mashbills, and if you are a fan of wheated bourbons, this one should be right up your alley.

  • Mashbill: 51% corn, 45% wheat, 4% malt barley.
  • Cooperage is Speyside in KY and char level #4
  • 121 Proof
  • Fill Date: 4/1/2015

Mashbill is the custom wheated mashbill Greg Metze did for Old Elk while at MGP. In other words, the barrel was laid down at MGP, but it's a custom mashbill specifically for Old Elk (and now The Prime Barrel).

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Toffee, vanilla, plums, hibiscus
  • Palate: Toasted hazelnuts, clove, cinnamon, vanilla, citrus
  • Finish: Allspice and black peppercorn

As suggested by our members, the pick will support Alzheimer's Association. $5 from each bottle will go directly to the charity, where good folks are accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
