ABOUT

Lost Lantern just rewrote their playbook. Known strictly for unearthing obscure craft distilleries, the acclaimed independent bottler recently ventured into the legendary rickhouses of Cascade Hollow to hunt for liquid gold. They’ve emerged with a magnificent Tennessee treasure. Single Cask #9 represents an eighteen-year-old expression of George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey, drawn from a single profoundly matured barrel. Collaborating directly with the master distiller, the founders isolated a cask that showcases heritage whiskey through an entirely new lens. This cask defies every single expectation.

Age alters the physics of whiskey maturation. While most modern bourbons climb in proof as they sit in the barrel, this Tennessee stalwart took an entirely different evolutionary path. Decades of atmospheric shifts inside the rickhouse steadily mellowed the spirit, dropping its natural cask strength down to an incredibly approachable 82 proof. It's a notoriously rare barrel anomaly. This lower ABV provides an unadulterated, hyper-concentrated snapshot of Cascade Hollow’s signature mashbill without the harsh, anesthetic burn of high ethanol. True complexity lives in this balance.

Eighteen years in oak demands sturdy distillate. George Dickel’s standard eighty-four percent corn recipe easily withstands the heavy tannin extraction, and it's a masterclass of antique wood and orchard fruit. Every sip carries the distinct mineral footprint the distillery is famous for, deeply intertwined with layers of dark cherry, vintage leather, and baking spice. The palate feels remarkably, beautifully dense. Bottlings like this highlight why independent curators are pivotal to the modern whiskey landscape, as they rescue anomalous, singular casks from the anonymity of massive blending vats.

  • Release: Fall 2026 Single Cask Collection

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Dense aromas of polished antique furniture and dried black cherries mingle with subtle slate, toasted almonds, and dark brown sugar.

Palate: Viscous and completely devoid of alcohol burn, offering immediate waves of vanilla bean, old leather, and baked plums structured by deep oak undertones.

Finish: Exceptionally long and drying, leaving a persistent trail of baking spices, slate, and a touch of dark cocoa powder.

FOOD PAIRING

Pairing an eighteen-year-old whiskey requires intensely savory companions to offset its heavy oak presence. A dry-aged ribeye steak provides the requisite fat and salt. The charred crust of the beef perfectly matches the barrel tannins. Finish the evening with dark chocolate truffles to amplify the whiskey's lingering cherry and leather notes.
