High above the Sieve river valley, the Frascole estate occupies the ruins of an ancient Roman settlement. The estate remains fiercely traditional. The Rufina subzone produces some of the most age-worthy, structured Sangiovese in Tuscany, defying the broader region's reputation for immediate, simple fruit. Frascole farms their high-altitude vineyards entirely organically, forcing vines to dig deep into the rocky galestro soils.

Fermentation occurs in concrete vats. This strict method preserves the rugged authenticity of the terroir rather than masking the nuanced flavor profile with invasive, new oak barrels. It yields an austere, classical wine that commands serious attention.

Nose: Initial aromas are distinctly earthy and restrained, slowly revealing layers of tart red cherry and dried Mediterranean scrub. Subtle undertones of dusty terracotta and faint tobacco leaf anchor the bouquet, indicating a cool-climate origin.

Palate: Tense and tightly coiled upon entry, this Sangiovese asserts itself with firm, chalky tannins and brilliant acidity. Flavors of bitter cranberry, crushed black plum, and iron weave through a medium-bodied frame, resisting any modern inclination toward sweetness.

Finish: A persistent, structural close leans heavily into savory territory. Lingering notes of dried thyme, leather, and crushed stone resonate long after the fruit dissipates.

This deeply structural Sangiovese demands protein and fat to soften its gripping tannins.
