Breuckelen Distilling Jews and Booze "Dramba" 7 Year Old New York Wheat Whiskey

$99

ABOUT

The next J&B barrel is called “Dramba” in honor of the delicious, peanutty Israeli snack, Bamba. It is a wheat whiskey distilled by Breuckelen Distilling that was was barreled on 2/11/2014 and bottled on 11/30/2021. It was aged for 7 years, 9 months in a 53 gal new charred American oak barrel from Kelvin Cooperage that was air dried for 2 years and had char #3. The barrel was stored in their East New York warehouse for 4 years and then in their warehouse on 19th Street in Brooklyn for the other 3+ years. It was bottled at 130 proof under their “The New York” label. The mash bill is 100% soft white wheat.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: This nose affords a term of experience rather than individual terms. It feels like breakfast, at least the sweet side of it. Mrs Butterworth’s comes in first, followed by distinct notes of blueberry pancake with a pad of butter. Cola typically isn’t breakfast but it’s in there too.

Palate: This whiskey comes in fairly intensely with all of the sodas including that tingly mouth feel. There are notes of orange soda first, followed by cola in the mid-palate. That is joined classic wheat whiskey notes of caramel and butterscotch. The back of the palate has a brief foray into grape soda before moving towards brown butter.

Finish: The flavors carry for a long time, showcasing the sweetness of the wheat. It also has a distinct buttery experience that persists long past the palate stage.

Overall: If you’re a fan of wheat whiskies or wheated bourbon, this is a must own pick. It does what few wheat whiskies do in providing complexity in the palate beyond pure saccharine sweetness. Those folks that stand in line for hours waiting for that certain Frankfort, KY wheated bourbon don’t know what they’re missing.

$5 from every bottle will be donated to Making Headway Foundation to provide care and comfort for children with brain and spinal cord tumors while funding medical research geared to better treatments and a cure.
