ABOUT

Bio-Weingut Geyerhof is a family owned winery that has been in Ilsa Maier's family since the 16th century. The 37-acre estate is located in the Krems Valley of Lower Austria near the Danube River, which provides ideal growing conditions for Riesling, Gruner Veltliner and Zweigelt. The estate vineyards grow on different soils; prehistoric stone, sandy soils and gravel soils and are located in some of the best sites in the region.

In 1986, Ilse took over Geyerhof and two years later, she and her husband Josef converted to the estate to organic and entire estate is certified organic. The vineyards are dry farmed and all the fruit is hand-harvested. In the winery, the grapes are fermented using natural yeasts. Lees contact, neutral barrel aging and malolactic fermentation are carefully utilized to add complexity to the wines.  Ilse Maier is one of the founding members of the Association of Female Wine Makers of Austria.

TASTING NOTES

Expressive notes of stone and white blossoms are layered with hints of mandarin orange and peach. Vibrant acidity provides lift on the long and silky finish.

FOOD PAIRING

Think Spice. Because of Riesling’s sweetness and acidity, it makes the perfect accompaniment to spicy food. Strong Indian and Asian spices are a perfect match with Riesling. A classic pairing with Riesling is spiced duck leg.
