Laphroaig 30 Year Old "The Ian Hunter Story Book 2" Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Introducing the second release of Ian Hunter’s series: a non-chill filtered whisky with sweet sherry notes underscored by Laphroaig‘s characteristic peatiness, aged for 30 years in Spanish Oak Oloroso Sherry oaks. The second release of the Ian hunter Series is a tribute to the Icon that Ian Hunter built more than 100 years ago. Because no one thing is more important to the creation of Laphroaig than the place it comes from—Islay and the ‘hollow by the bay’ where Laphroaig first came into being.

Laphroaig’s Ian Hunter Story series draws its inspiration from an icon of Islay scotch whisky. In this, the second in the series, we find a profile that’s right in sweet, smoky stone fruit, thanks to thirty years’ maturation in Spanish Oloroso casks.

The second chapter in Laphroaig’s Ian Hunter Story Book matured for three decades in Spanish oak oloroso sherry casks. Typically peaty, the nose also offers notes of dates, figs, rich cigar smoke, licorice, and dark chocolate. The palate offers notes of orange peel, manuka honey, and smoked stone fruits, with waves of peat smoke in the background.

Nose: First thing you notice is the iodine, classic Laphroaig, and then meaty notes like smoked bacon but with a sweet maple syrup cure, toffee, with spices such as pink peppercorns, chili, and licorice.
Palate: Spicy peppery notes with seaweed and that iodine note again, creamy full nutty texture with stone fruit, rose petal, and toffee.
Finish: Long with nuts and a lemon peel lift.
Overall:A rich dark old dram but that Laphroaig Distillery character still dominates after all this time.
