(95% Nerello Mascalese/5% Nerello Cappuccio) The fruit was macerated for five days before fermentation and again for 2-3 days post-fermentation with pump overs. The Portale family have been winemakers for generations, but it was Ferninando Portale who brought modern growing methods to the property and passed along his love for the land to his son Piero. In 2002, Piero bought additional acreage, increasing the family's holdings to 67 acres, of which 40 are planted to vines. The south facing, terraced vineyards are planted at an elevation of 2,132-2,296 feet on volcanic soils. Winemaker Giovanni Marletta has been overseeing production at Setteporte.
Intense ruby red colour with a pleasantly fruity bouquet layered with red fruit and wild berries. The taste is dry, harmonious, elegant and persistent.
