ABOUT

Smoke Wagon 10-Year-Old "Desert Jewel" Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a limited-edition bourbon whiskey from Nevada H&C Distilling Company. It is made from a blend of two different bourbon mash bills, one with a higher corn content and one with a higher rye content. The whiskey is aged for a minimum of 10 years in new, charred American oak barrels, which gives it a rich and complex flavor profile.

On the nose, Smoke Wagon 10-Year-Old "Desert Jewel" Straight Bourbon Whiskey offers aromas of vanilla, caramel, oak, and spice. The palate is smooth and full-bodied, with notes of vanilla, oak, cinnamon, rye spice, and fruit. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of oak, spice, and caramel.

Smoke Wagon 10-Year-Old "Desert Jewel" Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a unique and flavorful bourbon whiskey that is sure to please even the most discerning palate. It is perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks, or for using in cocktails.

This unique bourbon comes from their private barrel program. When they say private barrel, they mean it. They bottle the bourbon from one barrel and move to the next. Once the bottles that come from these barrels are gone, the distinct flavor profile will never be repeated. Every bottle is marked with the barrel’s warehouse number and floor location, the month and year it was barreled, and names the retailer who selected the barrel for its flavor profile. After 10 years of aging there is quite a bit of volume loss so they yield an average of 21 six-pack cases per barrel, and since they pull such a small number of barrels, these bottles are rare and limited.

TASTING NOTES

Right off the nose, a handful of sweet pecan pralines and sweet buttercream. There are lots of fruit notes like figs, dried apples, raisins, and dates, all very deep and well-rounded.

Also a good amount of tannins in there, but they’re all much softer than regular cask strength MGP normally is; there’s fragrant wood, saddle leather, and oddly enough, sagebrush bush.

Palate: A delicious, thick Grade B maple syrup, with toasted nuts, cinnamon, toasted orange peel, and vanilla cupcakes. There’s also some slightly spice chili powder that helps to even out the sweetness.

Finish: Some sweet rye notes linger around longer while a thick, honey-like coating coats the tongue for a while. There’s sweet mint, juicy plums, and some baked apples. As the dram goes on, more baking spices start to pop up.
