NV Lurra Campo de Borja Garnacha

ABOUT

The unforgiving plains of Campo de Borja do not coddle their vines. Known fiercely as the "Empire of Garnacha," this arid pocket of Aragon forces its roots deep through parched, rocky earth just to survive. Lurra captures that brutal struggle perfectly in the glass. It thrives on adversity. You taste the relentless Cierzo wind that sweeps through the vineyards, drastically dropping yields and concentrating raw flavor. This isn't a heavily manipulated, oak-drenched caricature of Spanish wine. It is a wildly authentic, high-altitude snapshot of pure fruit.

Winemaking here steps completely out of the way. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve its electric, nervous energy, this Garnacha drinks with a surprising, buoyant freshness. Heavy extraction is totally abandoned. Instead, you get a vibrant, unpretentious red that leaps out of the bottle with eager, joyful momentum. It serves as a brilliant daily drinker. You pop the cork on a chaotic Tuesday night to immediately slice through the noise of the day.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: The glass erupts with crushed bramble berries and dark, fleshy plums. You immediately catch a rugged, dusty undertone of dried sage and cracked black peppercorns. It smells exactly like a sun-baked Spanish plateau at dusk.

Palate: Tension defines the mid-palate. A wave of juicy, briary blackberry crashes over the tongue, completely untethered by heavy, intrusive tannins. It glides. The texture is immensely slurpy and lithe, driven by a zippy acidity that keeps the massive fruit perfectly balanced.

Finish: The departure is abrupt and intensely satisfying. A spicy kick of white pepper lingers just long enough to demand another thirsty gulp. It fades cleanly.

FOOD PAIRING

This bottle demolishes heavily spiced, casual fare. Smoked brisket tacos covered in sharp salsa verde find an absolute soulmate in this juicy, unoaked red. It craves char. Toss heavily seasoned lamb burgers on a blazing grill, or simply tear into a crusty baguette with spicy chorizo. The bright acidity slices right through rendered animal fat, resetting your palate entirely.
