ABOUT

Owners Alfonso Undurraga Mackenna and his sons Alfonso, Max and Cristobal founded Koyle in 2006. They comprise a legacy of Chilean winemaking excellence that dates back to 1885 when their descendents founded the family's eponymous winery, Undurraga. In 2006, when the family sold Undurraga the winery and vineyards which allowed Alfonso to pursue a lifelong dream – finding superior terroir from which to produce handcrafted, authentic, small production Chilean red wines. The biodynamically farmed 2,718 acre estate is located in the Los Lingues zone of Colchagua Valley, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Winemaker and viticulturalist Cristobal Undurraga Marimon worked for Chateau Latour and Franciscan Estates and seeks to produce wines that strike the right balance between European restraint and Chilean fruit. The winery was named after a beautiful, endangered, indigenous purple plant that the Chilean Indians called Koyle.

TASTING NOTES

Rich aromas of red berry and graphite are integrated with notes of chocolate on the velvety finish.(90% Malbec/7% Syrah/3% Carmenere) The hand-picked fruit was cold macerated and fermented with extended maceration lasting five days.The wine aged for 12 months in French oak and was filtered before bottling.
