NV C.H. Berres Wehlener Klosterberg Kabinett Riesling

Since 1510 the Berres family has grown and made great Rieslings in the privileged sites of Ürzig, Erden and Wehlen. Markus Berres, 21st generation, succeeded his father Alfred in 2004. Following graduation from the Geisenheim Institute and one year in the New Zealand wine industry, Markus is relaunching his family’s nine-acre estate with updated wines and packages, including Stelvin closures on all bottles.

Pronounced lime and peach along with subtle ginger notes. Piercing, very focused mineral tones which are classic to the blue slate bring out delineation and very cool finesse. Complex, secondary tones are quite present and reveal themselves in such a handsome way. Drinking exquisitely and still packing loads of life, 2002 was a grand vintage for Kabinett, Spatlese and Auslese wines. This semi-dry Riesling possesses a low alcohol level (7.5%) and is brilliantly delineated, complex and most importantly, very detailed. Drinking wonderfully now and will continue to do so for another 4-5 years…if not longer!

Think Spice. Because of Riesling’s sweetness and acidity, it makes the perfect accompaniment to spicy food. Strong Indian and Asian spices are a perfect match with Riesling. A classic pairing with Riesling is spiced duck leg. Meat Pairings - Duck, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Shrimp and Crab Spices and Herbs - Highly spiced and aromatic herbs including Cayenne Pepper, Ginger, Clove, Cinnamon, Allspice, Tumeric, Madras Curry, Sichuan Pepper, Shallots, Soy Sauce, Sesame, Marjoram, Basil, Rice Vinegar and Teriyaki Sauce.   Cheese Pairings - Try it with less stinky and delicately flavored soft cow’s milk cheese and dried fruit. Vegetables & Vegetarian Fare - Roasted vegetables and veggies with natural sweetness including Coconut, Red Onion, Bell Pepper, Eggplant, Tempeh, Squash and Carrot.
