Built in 1700, The Macallan estate lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Macallan uses the smallest spirit stills on Speyside, which contribute to the distinctively rich, fruity 'new make' spirit of the distillery. Interestingly, these stills are so famous that they have appeared on the back of a Bank of Scotland banknote. The Macallan spends more time on sourcing, building, and caring for its casks than any other distillery. Spanish sherry-seasoned oak casks produce flavors of chocolate, dried fruit, and spices; American sherry-seasoned oak casks provide sweet citrus, light spice, vanilla, and subtle oak, while American bourbon-seasoned oak barrels offer sweet citrus, coconut, and oak.
