Selected through a rare Sazerac Barrel Select Lottery, this release gave The Prime Barrel team access to a few ever see—an intimate tour of Freddie Johnson’s domain, including the new still and some of the most restricted rickhouses on site.

Prime Barrel members Priscilla and Jason beat the odds just to step onto those grounds. From there, the task was simple in theory, difficult in practice—find the one barrel that speaks.

This one did.

A Barrel with Meaning

This release is dedicated to a member of our community who stood with us on this selection and recently underwent brain surgery.

He’s recovering well—and if you know him, that’s no surprise.

There’s a certain resilience in this barrel.

The Profile

Among a lineup of “honey barrels,” this one separated itself immediately with a distinct Cherry Cream Soda profile—an expression of Mash Bill #1 at its most vivid and complete.

While standard Buffalo Trace is built for consistency across dozens of barrels, this is the opposite: a single, unrepeatable moment captured in glass.

In the Glass

The nose opens softly but confidently. Creamy vanilla, caramel, and dried cherry lead, with a gentle thread of baking spice beneath.

Then it expands.

On the palate, a burst of cherry confection and cream soda lifts first, followed by light brown sugar, cinnamon warmth, and a subtle molasses depth that keeps everything grounded.

It lingers longer than expected. The finish settles into toasted vanilla bean, dried cherry, and a restrained pepper note, all carried by well-integrated oak.
