Cask-strength Canadian rye rarely feels this complete. Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye is distilled in Calgary from 100% prairie rye and Rocky Mountain water, then bottled uncut at cask strength. It’s a limited release meant to show Canadian rye in its raw, high-powered form.

Time in wood gives this power a bit of polish. Aged at least five years in a mix of new charred oak and ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky layers sweet grain, spice, and toasted timber. Nothing about it feels shy.

The nose jumps out of the glass immediately. Sweet, woody oak carries vanilla, caramel, and milk chocolate, with darker streaks of blackcurrant, orange peel, and faint eucalyptus drifting underneath. There’s a clean rye brightness behind the richness.

On the palate, it moves from candy to campfire. Thick caramel and vanilla fudge lead first, followed by baking spice, black tea, mint, and a peppery rye grip that keeps everything taut. Heat builds, but flavor stays ahead of it.

The finish sits long and structured. Dark fruit, warm vanilla, rye spice, and subtle chocolate echo for ages, leaving a pleasantly buzzing, slightly leathery afterglow.
