ABOUT

To understand the wines of Cantine Barbera, you need to see the ocean. Vines that live this close to the ocean in south-western Sicily turn the sea brine into vibrant tasty salinity. A third generation farmer, Marilena Barbera farms the Inzoila that her grandfather planted in the 20's, just as she attends to the native varietals that are the new frontier of her own generation: Perricone, Nerello, Alicante, Nero d'Avola and Grillo.

Alicante is a Spanish grape that was probably introduced in Sicily during the dominations of the XV-XVI centuries. Grown in several Mediterranean regions, it is known under different names such as Garnacha, Grenache and Cannonau.

TASTING NOTES

Ruby red color with an intense bright violet hue, Ciatu has a rich and fruity bouquet of ripe mulberry and raspberry that stand out against an exotic layer of fine herbs and spices. Its captivating palate is juicy and fresh, with smooth silky tannins, a well integrated acidity and a long and persistent finish. A very good companion for red roasted meats and spicy dishes. This wine is a perfect mate for grilled tuna fish, Medium aged Caciocavallo ragusano or Pork rolls slow cooked in a tomato red sauce.
