Celebrate with us as Frey Ranch marks 10 years of distilling! The Prime Barrel is proud to join in the celebration with the release of our first Frey Ranch single barrel bourbon.

Our journey began last summer during a virtual tasting with Colby and Ashley Frey, where they guided us through their distillery. We were inspired to plan a trip to Fallon, NV, to select a barrel of our own. Ultimately, seven Prime Barrel members journeyed across the high desert, located 75 miles east of Reno.

The Frey family has been farming this land for over 165 years. Today, 100% of the grain they grow goes into whiskey production. They handle every aspect, including malting their own grain in custom-built drums fabricated locally.

After an insightful tour of the farm and distillery, we entered the tasting room to select our barrel, joined by Ashley Frey and Master Distiller Russell Wedlake. Together, they hand-selected six exceptional barrels for us to taste blind.

Choosing one was challenging; Barrel 2 and Barrel 5 emerged as the top contenders. Barrel 2 showcased fruity notes, while Barrel 5 was a spice bomb. Ultimately, we selected Barrel 2 for its well-rounded profile, featuring a velvety and creamy mouthfeel at 123.26 proof.
