ABOUT

Meet Nikka Coffey Grain Japanese Whisky—a spellbinding single‑grain expression from Nikka’s Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai. It’s distilled in vintage Coffey column stills imported from Scotland, making it a rare treasure in grain whisky craftsmanship.

First released in 2012, this signature bottling utilizes a mash bill of 95% corn and 5% malted barley, aged for at least three years (with an average age of approximately eight years) in ex-American oak casks to coax out a sweet, mellow character. At 90 proof (45% ABV), it offers a buttery texture and charming aromatics reminiscent of bourbon, with a distinctly Japanese twist. It’s versatile—ideal for sipping neat or uplifting classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or a highball.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of Chamomile.

Palate: Sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and fresh vanilla.

Finish: The corn notes, sweet and vibrant, last on the finish.

Overall: Fans of grain whisky should be pretty happy with this, as well as bourbon lovers.

FOOD PAIRING

Pair with buttered popcorn or corn pudding to echo its buttered corn sweetness.

Try with almond biscotti or oatmeal cookies to complement the cinnamon‑spice notes.

Use it in a Japanese highball or Paper Plane cocktail—the citrus and sweet spice marry beautifully.
