Distiller’s Profile: Japanese highest distillery at 800 meters in Miyata village in Nagano prefecture, situated between the north and south Alps of Japan. Mars, Shinshu distillery was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo Ltd., producer of Shochu since 1872. Shinshu Whisky is distilled mostly during the harsh winters of the inland mountainous region. This singular offering from Mars Shinshu Distillery is made from indigenous Japanese grapes that are distilled then aged for 16 years in virgin French Oak before being bottled at cask strength. The flavor is layered with notes of jasmine, grapefruit, and muscat.
